With the wedding in slightly more then twenty four hours, Isabel was reasonably pleased with how things were coming along. She'd love another two days to make sure that things were absolutely perfect, but since that wasn't possible, she'd just have to make do.
Glancing at her watch, she frowned. Wyatt was supposed to have been in Neptune an hour earlier in order to help her finish things up before the bachelor party. But he wasn't there. Which wasn't like him.
Trying not to be worried, she pulled out her phone and dialed his number.
Wyatt peered at his notes, then carefully added the dried herbs to the potion he was working on. He knew mixing potions sometimes caused minor explosions, and he jumped a little when the phone rang instead. He glanced at the caller ID. Isabel. Oh, hell, she was going to kill him.
"Hey, gorgeous," he said as he flipped the phone open.
"You're late." Someone might have been just a little stressed.
". . . I have a wee tiny demon problem," Wyatt said. "But I'll be there as soon as I deal with it, I promise."
Isabel facepalmed. "Wee tiny demon problems are not on the schedule of weekend events!!"
"They didn't check with me first," Wyatt protested. "I just have to take care of this first, and then I'll be right there."
"Of course not." Welcome to the rest of her life, Isabel realized. "I know. It's not your fault. Sacred duty and all that. Still the timing sucks."
She paused for a moment, thinking of the bachelor party and everything that still needed to be done before the morning. Then she weighed it against a night spent worrying. "Come get me."
"You have stuff to do and I can handle this," Wyatt started to argue.
"Like I'm actually going to be able to get stuff done while I'm worried about you?" Isabel countered.
"It's not a big deal, I swear," Wyatt said. "I'll be fine, nothing to worry about."
"You've met me, right? It's not possible." Someday she'd have to get used to it. Maybe. But not now. "Come get me. Or I'll get Bel to bring me there. And if I do, you know he'll say something to Phoebe and Piper. Which means they'll be worried to."
"Let me get this straight," Wyatt said. "Are you threatening to tell my mom on me if you don't get your way?"
Isabel made a face at the phone. "That's one way of looking at it I suppose. Personally I prefer to think of it as making sure the guy I love is in one piece tomorrow."
"I really don't want to pull you away from the wedding stuff," Wyatt said as a final protest.
"What wedding stuff? It's not important."
Isabel saying the wedding stuff wasn't important. Was that a pig that just flew by the window?
"There's no reason for you to do this on your own. Come get me, we'll take care of it and be back before the bachelor party's over."
Who was this, and what had she done with his girlfriend? "All right, I'll come get you," Wyatt said. "We'll get this done fast and be back to Neptune in no time."
No body snatchers here. When it came down to it, Isabel did have her priorities in order.
"Good. Give me five minutes to get changed and I'll be ready," she promised. "Thank you."
"Wear something you don't really care about," Wyatt advised. "This could be . . . messy."
"Of course. Fortunately I've got the alien-fu. So it's not an issue," Isabel replied.
As they talked, she'd made her way back to her room. She wasn't worried about her clothes. But she did want to change shoes. Sandals were not appropriate demon slaying gear. "I just need to change shoes."
"Okay," Wyatt said. "I just need to finish this potion, then I'll be right there, okay?"
"I'll be waiting," she promised. "See you soon."
Wyatt flipped his phone shut and turned back to the potion, pouring it into a couple vials he'd dug out from the attic. He slipped the potions into his pocket, then orbed to Neptune to pick up Isabel, hoping like hell that this didn't take long and that if it did, Isabel wouldn't kill him too much.
As promised, Isabel was ready and waiting when Wyatt got there. Hoping to get this over with before the party, the quickly orbed back to San Francisco. Wyatt was safe, no matter how late they wound up being. But the demon responsible was going to face the wrath of an angry Isabel.
