Room 208, Monday after classes

Wyatt couldn't sit still, though he did try not to pace as he waited for people to show up so Tannim could open the portal to the Underworld.

Isabel was going for utilitarian for this trip to the Underworld. It still meant a lot of black leather, just a lot less cleavage.

Frowning, she knocked on the door.

"There's a dress code," Isabel said, rolling her eyes. "Are you ready for this?"

Chris gave a perfunctory knock and then walked into his brother's room.

"Ready as I'm gonna be," Chris said. "We've got a good group of people for support at least."

Anders came down the hall dressed in his leather riding gear, jacket zipped up to the chin.

It didn't make him feel any tougher, but as he knocked on the door he reminded himself that at least he could look like it.

"I don't want to," Anders said, "but neither does anyone else here. And after -- after everything that happened, I'm never gonna be able to live with myself if I don't do something."

Mel's bouncing on her toes as she knocks on the door. "Open the frakkin' door and lets get a move on."

"Like I have anything better to do on a Monday night," Mel smirked. "Besides I hear Hell is nice this time of a year. Kind of a dry heat."

Tannim stood to the side of the closet door. "When I say go, you guys haul ass, okay? I'll go in last."

Tannim stood with his feet shoulder-width apart and his hands by his side. He'd used a necklace of Phoebe's to scry with earlier, so he had a good visual of where they were going.

He focused on his breathing to start with. He didn't need to be in trance, but he did need to be in a meditative state. His breathing slowed to a steady, rhythmic pace and he closed his eyes.

He drew the energy from within himself, keeping Chinthliss's lessons in mind. He formed a mental picture of the arch in the Underworld he had spotted while scrying, and channeled the energy into the closet doorframe.

Only someone with magical sight could see the flow of energy from Tannim to the door, but the iris that opened up in the air within the frame was visible to all.

The iris expanded, filling the doorframe, until a thin glow of blue-green light traced the outline of the Gate. The space within was blurry and distorted at first, a sickening swirl of nothingness. After only a few moments, though, it formed into a view of something beyond the Gate - a rough, rocky cavern. Torches flickered on the walls, making shadows dance against the stone.

Tannim took a moment to anchor the Gate within himself, then opened his eyes. "Go," he said.
