Room 208, Monday morning/afternoon

Wyatt had handwavily borrowed the Book of Shadows from Chris and was flipping through its pages as he munched on a bowl of noddles.

No, he wasn't idly looking for information on how to possibly summon a Whitelighter.

Or any spell he could use to break up a couple.

Why would he do that?

Wyatt considered and discarded many responses, including,

"Of course not, because that would be so wrong on so many levels," and

"Of course not, because it was her boyfriend you were sleeping with," or possibly

"Dude, that would mean you have some sort of weird Halliwell fetish and I should really watch my ass."

He chose none of these, however. "I know, I know," he said. "Just something I'm obligated to say as an over-protective nephew."

"Well, you can relax," Anders said, swallowing hard. "I didn't take advantage of her or anything like that."

What? It had been mutual. Drunken, but mutual.

"Good," Wyatt said. "I mean . . . she needs to move on and all. But it would be weird if it was with a friend of mine."

"And extra wrong if it was me," Anders added half to himself. "And wow, way too soon. Seriously."

"Damned straight," Wyatt said. He paused, then said, "She told me she heard Cole's voice. Did she say anything about that to you? If she was drinking, maybe it was just a hallucination, wishful thinking. . . ."

Anders shook his head. "I don't think it was . . . well, it could have been, but I definitely saw her reacting to something I couldn't hear."

"So you were there when it happened?" Wyatt said, eyeing Anders again. "But you didn't hear anything at all?"

"Didn't hear a thing," Anders said, a little too bleary to notice the scrutiny. "Just her asking me if I'd heard it."

"Earlier today," Anders replied. Not a very good dodge, but he tried.

Wyatt eyed Anders again. "Dude, did you stay the night with her?"

Anders gulped, thought desperately, and replied, "Did you want me to fall down the stairs and break my neck because I was too drunk to walk?"

"What else was I going to do?" asked Anders, still flailing like a hungover flaily thing inside.

"Right," Wyatt said, nodding. "Sorry. Like I said, jealous over-protective."

"You better be jealous. Totally understood." Anders swore he could feel sweat trickling down the back of his neck, and dammit, he'd just taken a shower, too. "Dude, is there any way we can be sure it was him?"

"She wants to use a spell that helps find a lost love," Wyatt said. "I don't know though, it could be some sort of trap. But she's being stubborn."

"If it was me," Anders said slowly, "I'd be just about as stubborn. And I don't think you'd be able to talk me out of it either. Is the spell itself that dangerous?"

"I don't think so," Wyatt said. "But who knows what's waiting on the other side of it for her? Could be another demon pretending to be Cole."

Anders closed his eyes for a moment, thinking -- and trying to stave off another wave of headache pain.

"The worst thing we could do," he said finally, "is to leave her not knowing. If it's a trap, yeah, it'll suck, and it'll hurt like hell. But she'll know for sure. The thing that hurts the most is sort of being left hanging without a real answer one way or the other."

"But the spell takes just her," Wyatt pointed out. "And she doesn't have an active power. She'd be a sitting duck."

"Oh. That's . . . frak. There's no way anybody can go with her? Don't you have an active power?" asked Anders, not that he was quite sure what Wyatt meant by that. "Or your brother? Or somebody?"

"There might be a way to rewrite the spell to bring another person," Wyatt said. "But I don't think she wants to wait that long."

"I don't blame her," Anders said. "Dude, we're talking about the guy she loves here. Like, in a literally willing to go into hell for him way. I get the feeling she's gonna find a way to do it with or without your help, so . . . we might as well help."

Wyatt nodded. "There's a spell to bring her back. We're gonna be there to watch over her, and the first sign of trouble. . . ."
