Room 208, Monday morning/afternoon

Wyatt had handwavily borrowed the Book of Shadows from Chris and was flipping through its pages as he munched on a bowl of noddles.

No, he wasn't idly looking for information on how to possibly summon a Whitelighter.

Or any spell he could use to break up a couple.

Why would he do that?

Anders had slipped up to the roof for a quick smoking-and-brooding session before heading down to his own room. After a long, hot shower, some breakfast from the Synthetron, and three ibuprofen, he felt at least partway human again and possibly in need of someone to flail at pester talk to.

Lords of Kobol only knew what possessed him, obviously hungover as he still was, to go knock on Wyatt's door.

"Hey." Anders's voice was a little hoarse, and he was keeping it low for the sake of his own head. "How's break treating you so far?"

"Okay, I guess," Wyatt said. He peered at Anders. "Dude, you look like hell."

"Yeah, well, that'd be like an entire bottle of ambrosia plus an entire bottle of Onyx vodka plus tequila," Anders said dryly. "Who says you don't learn anything over spring break?"

Wyatt's eyes narrowed as he put two and two together. "Were you with Phoebe last night?" he said.

Flail. Flail, flail, meep, flail. "I promised I'd check up on her, she asked me to bring booze," Anders hedged. "So I did."

Wyatt nodded. "So long as you didn't like take advantage of her or anything, because then I'd have to kick your ass."

"Dude!" Anders exclaimed, and instantly regretted it when it hurt like hell. He held his hands up. "I would so not do that!"

Wyatt considered and discarded many responses, including,

"Of course not, because that would be so wrong on so many levels," and

"Of course not, because it was her boyfriend you were sleeping with," or possibly

"Dude, that would mean you have some sort of weird Halliwell fetish and I should really watch my ass."

He chose none of these, however. "I know, I know," he said. "Just something I'm obligated to say as an over-protective nephew."

"Well, you can relax," Anders said, swallowing hard. "I didn't take advantage of her or anything like that."

What? It had been mutual. Drunken, but mutual.

"Damned straight," Wyatt said. He paused, then said, "She told me she heard Cole's voice. Did she say anything about that to you? If she was drinking, maybe it was just a hallucination, wishful thinking. . . ."

Anders shook his head. "I don't think it was . . . well, it could have been, but I definitely saw her reacting to something I couldn't hear."

"Didn't hear a thing," Anders said, a little too bleary to notice the scrutiny. "Just her asking me if I'd heard it."

"Earlier today," Anders replied. Not a very good dodge, but he tried.

Anders gulped, thought desperately, and replied, "Did you want me to fall down the stairs and break my neck because I was too drunk to walk?"

"You better be jealous. Totally understood." Anders swore he could feel sweat trickling down the back of his neck, and dammit, he'd just taken a shower, too. "Dude, is there any way we can be sure it was him?"
