Campgrounds, Saturday evening

Wyatt had come out to the campgrounds while it was still light out to set things up. Now as night fell he had a nice fire going to ward off the chill of the fall night air, and a blanket stretched out on the ground beside it, along with a picnic basket of food -- including marshmallows, of course. The sky was clear, the moon was just a sliver, and the stars were bright overhead. Perfect.

Now all he needed was a girlfriend.

Wyatt set aside his plate and stretched out on the blanket, resting his head on one bent arm. "That's what I'm hoping for," he said. "I like spending time with you."

"You're lucky then," Isabel said as she stretched out next to him. "Because I like spending time with you. Which makes me extremely glad you didn't take Parker up on her offer at the dance."

Wyatt ducked his head. "She told you about that, huh?"

"She did, yes," she laughed. "Parker's my best friend. That was her way of looking out for me."

"Would you believe me if I said I was just trying to distract myself?" Wyatt asked.

Isabel reached over and traced the line of his jaw with her fingers. "I do. Especially after that dance. It was hard walking away."

He moved one hand to cover hers. "Tell me about it," he said quietly.

"No walking away now?" she asked, leaning just a bit closer.

"You think I'd let you get away a second time?" Wyatt said, moving his hand up her arm.

Isabel moved as if she was going to pull away. Granted, she moved all of half an inch. "I hope not."

Wyatt's hand reached her shoulder, and he tugged her closer, bringing his face close to hers so that he could steal a kiss. Or quite possibly take one if it was freely given.

Stealing was wrong. Isabel wouldn't want Wyatt to get in trouble. "I'll take that as a no then," she whispered as her hand cupped his face.

"A most definite no," Wyatt said, sweeping his fingers through Isabel's hair.

Slowly she closed the distance between them, just barely brushing his lips with her own.

He leaned in to meet her. But a brush wasn't enough, and he sought a more firm, but still tender, touch.

Isabel didn't have a problem with that, enjoying the opportunity to concentrate on the feel of his kiss. Her hand moved into his hair as she shifted closer.

Wyatt moved his lips against hers, getting into a comfortable position while simultaneously pushing the picnic basket away with his foot. He hoped he remembered to put the cap back on the cider.

This was something she could get used to, Isabel realized. Well, except for her slightly damp foot. That could get cold rather quickly, even though Wyatt was doing a very good job of getting her rather warm.

Pulling back the tiniest bit, she smiled. "My foot seems rather damp."

"Oops," Wyatt said sheepishly, looking down their bodies to the end of the blanket. "I think I knocked the cider over."

Sheepish was an adorable look on Wyatt and Isabel stole a quick kiss. "Not a problem." She sat up and set the bottle upright, then ran her hand over her foot, drying the cider.

"Now where were we?" she asked. "Or do you feel like moving on the actual dessert part of the evening?" It was a difficult decision.

"I think the marshmallows can wait awhile," Wyatt said, reaching out his arm to pull Isabel back down on the blanket.

Laughing she let Wyatt pull her back down. "I'm sure they're delighted to put off the flaming torture a bit longer."

"This is nice," Isabel said, snuggling up to him.

"Mmm hmm," Wyatt agreed. He wrapped one arm around her shoulders, and gestured upward with the other. "I arranged these stars tonight just for you."

"All this for the first date?" she teased. "I can't wait for the second now. To see how you're going to top this."

"Guess I've got my work cut out for me," Wyatt grinned. "Any requests?"
