Campgrounds, Saturday evening

Wyatt had come out to the campgrounds while it was still light out to set things up. Now as night fell he had a nice fire going to ward off the chill of the fall night air, and a blanket stretched out on the ground beside it, along with a picnic basket of food -- including marshmallows, of course. The sky was clear, the moon was just a sliver, and the stars were bright overhead. Perfect.

Now all he needed was a girlfriend.

"I can neither confirm nor deny the passing temptation of orbing certain people off the island," Wyatt said, trying -- and failing -- to look innocent.

Isabel was fairly certain who Wyatt had in mind for orbing. "You should be rewarded for your restraint."

"I must use my powers for good, not evil," Wyatt said solemnly, though he was grinning.

"And orbing Johnny out to the middle of the Atlantic would probably count as evil," she nodded. "The duck pond on the other hand..."

"Believe me, I've been tempted," Wyatt said, making a face. "But if he'd just leave Chris alone and treat Savannah well, we'd be good."

"He's been doing a pretty good job of treating her well hasn't he?" Isabel asked, thinking about the conversation she'd had with Johnny on Thursday.

"And for what it's worth, I asked him to be nice." Granted she'd been talking about Wyatt, so she'd have to ask Johnny to include Chris as well.

"I'll believe it when I see it," Wyatt said. "It's the trophy thing I don't like. And if I ran around and kept telling Peter 'Ha ha, she's dating me now!' that would make me a first class ass, wouldn't it?"

She hadn't heard anything about a trophy, but at the same time, it didn't exactly surprise her. "He's insecure and immature in some ways. I'm not making excuses for him. But he is my friend. And he has always treated me well."

Shaking her head and laughing a bit, Isabel poked his arm. "If you were running around like that, you'd very rapidly meet a wall. Just saying. Also? Dating? Meaning more then tonight?"

Wyatt set aside his plate and stretched out on the blanket, resting his head on one bent arm. "That's what I'm hoping for," he said. "I like spending time with you."

"You're lucky then," Isabel said as she stretched out next to him. "Because I like spending time with you. Which makes me extremely glad you didn't take Parker up on her offer at the dance."

Wyatt ducked his head. "She told you about that, huh?"

"She did, yes," she laughed. "Parker's my best friend. That was her way of looking out for me."

"Would you believe me if I said I was just trying to distract myself?" Wyatt asked.

Isabel reached over and traced the line of his jaw with her fingers. "I do. Especially after that dance. It was hard walking away."

He moved one hand to cover hers. "Tell me about it," he said quietly.

"No walking away now?" she asked, leaning just a bit closer.

"You think I'd let you get away a second time?" Wyatt said, moving his hand up her arm.

Isabel moved as if she was going to pull away. Granted, she moved all of half an inch. "I hope not."

Wyatt's hand reached her shoulder, and he tugged her closer, bringing his face close to hers so that he could steal a kiss. Or quite possibly take one if it was freely given.

Stealing was wrong. Isabel wouldn't want Wyatt to get in trouble. "I'll take that as a no then," she whispered as her hand cupped his face.

"A most definite no," Wyatt said, sweeping his fingers through Isabel's hair.

Slowly she closed the distance between them, just barely brushing his lips with her own.

He leaned in to meet her. But a brush wasn't enough, and he sought a more firm, but still tender, touch.

Isabel didn't have a problem with that, enjoying the opportunity to concentrate on the feel of his kiss. Her hand moved into his hair as she shifted closer.

Wyatt moved his lips against hers, getting into a comfortable position while simultaneously pushing the picnic basket away with his foot. He hoped he remembered to put the cap back on the cider.
